About Y Llechen

Y Llechen (the Slate) is a blog for university staff and students, members of the local community, and any other researchers interested in resources at the University Libraries in Bangor, North Wales.

Follow the blog to learn about:
  • Electronic resources: new, trial and popular resources, issues affecting access to e-resources, technical tips, etc;
  • Printed resources: highlights from our collection of printed materials (books, journals, dissertations, etc);
  • Library news: events and open days in the library and archive services, free training sessions, etc.
The blog is called Y Llechen (the Slate) in honour of the local quarrymen who donated money towards the establishment of the University from their hard earned wages. The quarrymen’s subscription book is in the Bangor University Archives collection, and sample pages can be viewed online at the Gathering the Jewels website.

For further reading on Bangor University history or the local quarrymen, visit the Shankland Reading Room in the Main Library on College Road, where some relevant resources include:
The North Wales Quarrymen, 1874-1992 by R. Merfyn Jones, and Bangor University, 1884-2009 by David Roberts.

Y Llechen is maintained by library staff at Bangor University.
