SAINT DWYNWEN: LOVE, HISTORY, HERITAGE, AND PSYCHOLOGY

SAINT DWYNWEN: LOVE, HISTORY, HERITAGE, AND PSYCHOLOGY

The Saint Dwynwen evening which launched the “Love your Library” campaign this week was a huge success. The evening was so well attended that there was standing room only within 10 minutes of the start of the event!

Dr. Ceridwen Lloyd Morgan, an expert in medieval studies, gave a very interesting talk on the history of Saint Dwynwen entitled Dwynwen: Saint of Sailors and Lovers.

Graham Williams from Natural Resources Wales talked about the wonderful work carried out on Ynys Llanddwyn and the history of the island. The name Llanddwyn means the church of St Dwynwen and the island itself is a wonderful place to visit.

Professor Oliver Turnbull gave a lecture with an interesting twist on Saint Dwynwen, love and the neuropsychology of happiness.

The evening was enjoyed by everyone and we hope to repeat this again next year in order to raise awareness about St. Dwynwen and her life.

Many thanks go to Rhianna Parry who entertained everyone with her wonderful harp playing.

The ‘”Design a poster competition” about Love Your Library was launched. We are encouraging all student to enter and leave comments on the Library and Archives social media pages and on the display boards in the library. Three prizes will be awarded and more information is available at http://www.bangor.ac.uk/library/LoveYourLibrary.php.en
